'The Cuphead Show!' gets a fittingly nostalgic trailer from Netflix

Cuphead remains like no other video game we've ever seen, but very much like cartoons we have.

The highly popular, notoriously difficult, side-scrolling action game from Studio MDHR is getting a Netflix show, which befits its inspiration from 1930s cartoons. The streaming giant released a trailer for The Cuphead Show! on Tuesday, announcing a 12-episode season will debut next month.

The series follows the eponymous hero Cuphead (voiced by Tru Valentino) and his brother Mugman (voiced by Frank Todaro) on their adventures through the Inkwell Isles. Fans of the game will recognize plenty of characters in the trailer, including a heap of enemies like the final boss, The Devil (Luke Millington-Drake) and his right-hand man King Dice (incredibly, Wayne Brady). Also featured is Ms. Chalice (Grey Griffin), a character set to appear in the game's DLC Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course in June.

As seen in the video game, The Cuphead Show! includes one of the signatures of this style of cartoon — jazz music — thanks to Ego Plum who has worked on the likes of SpongeBob Squarepants among other things.

The Cuphead Show! premieres on Netflix on Feb. 18.
