Dirty John is back to bring fans another sordid love story that went horribly wrong: the true-life story of Betty (Amanda Peet) and Dan Broderick (Christian Slater), and what Oprah Winfrey herself deemed one of "America's messiest divorces." The trailer for season two of the anthology series has arrived, and it paints a vivid picture of how the seemingly perfect marriage of college sweethearts ended up with a former housewife being convicted of killing her ex-husband and his second wife. Peet serves severely scorned ex-wife to a T in the trailer, saying, "I would've been treated better if I had been a dog and served my master. I'm amazed it only took one bullet to kill Dan Broderick."
We know she's the "villain" of the season, but damn if that line isn't a little iconic. The trailer gives fans brief peeks at a few of the moments that led real-life Betty to receive 32 years in prison. She alleged that she suffered years of physical and psychological abuse, while Dan argued that Betty "wants to destroy me." According to the show's synopsis, "Betty's attempts to fight back and enraged refusals to accept reality only serve to isolate and destabilize her until she loses her very identity. And Dan's cold confidence blinds him to the bear he has created, and won't stop poking . . . until it's too late." Whew.
Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story is currently slated to premiere on USA Network in June, but we're still waiting for an exact release date. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer above and get excited to delve into the scandal in June!
