Issa Rae Hilariously Thanks Tracee Ellis Ross For Losing at the NAACP Image Awards

Trust Issa Rae to make us burst into laughter at an award show. On Saturday night, Rae took home her first-ever win at the NAACP Image Awards for outstanding actress in a comedy series for Insecure. She was up against a group of strong nominees, including Regina Hall, Yara Shahidi, Folake Olowofoyeku, and Tracee Ellis Ross. And after quickly thanking the NAACP for the accolade in her acceptance speech, Rae also hilariously thanked Ross for losing. "Bad b*tches don't lose often, but when they do, they don't care," she said. Ross had previously won the category for the past six years - since 2015! - for her role in Black-ish.

After expressing gratitude for the cast, crew, HBO, and more involved in Insecure, Rae, who wore a sleek halter neck dress, went on to share how much the recognition means to her. "It's the only validation that matters, is Black people's validation, so I really appreciate NAACP for honoring us," she continued. "It means so much."

Later in the evening, Ross shared Rae's speech on her Instagram, congratulating her friend on her win. "When your friends win it's almost better than when you do! Congratulations @issarae!!!! Love you and soooooo happy for your win! #naacpimageawards," she wrote. Watch Rae's full speech above.
