Yes, We're Still Talking About That Game of Thrones Coffee Cup, and Emilia Clarke Says It's All Varys's Fault

We thought the whole Game of Thrones coffee cup debacle had finally died down, after months of speculation regarding who was to blame for the Starbucks cup that appeared in a scene during season eight. But on Wednesday, the topic came up again when Emilia Clarke stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Clarke has long been considered the most likely person to have left the cup on set during filming, and Sophie Turner seemed pretty sure it belonged to her. But the Last Christmas star had a very different story to tell.

Apparently, at an Emmy's party, another Game of Thrones star confessed they may have been responsible for the extra prop. "Conleth [Hill], who plays Varys, who's sitting next to me in that scene, he pulls me aside and says, 'Emilia, I've got to tell you something, love, the coffee cup was mine.'" Clarke told Fallon, her eyes wide, though she does go on to admit, "He might have been drunk, but he said it." Apparently, Hill kept quiet for months because he saw how much heat Clarke was getting for the mistake, but she's clearly been waiting for the moment when she could pass the buck. Will the blame game ever end? Guess we'll find out next time a Game of Thrones star stops by for a chat with Fallon!
