With Peter Weber newly chosen as the next Bachelor, it's time to revisit what happened between "Pilot Pete" and Hannah on The Bachelorette last Summer. Pete became something of a fan favorite, making it all the way to the top three (and becoming the center of the season's most meme-able moment), but had a minor scandal to deal with, too. Here's what to keep in mind ahead of his Bachelor season.
In the first few weeks of the show, Pete was a pretty low-key player, keeping himself away from most of the major drama in the mansion. While all the Luke P. drama went down, Pete kept to the middle of the pack, charming Hannah and occasionally making really bad airplane puns but mostly just establishing himself as a fairly likable and low-drama dude. He got along well with the other guys in the house, too (seriously, we loved his bromance with Tyler C.). Pete made it to the hometown dates, where his entire family charmed Hannah, too, and he took her on a one-on-one plane ride.
After that, of course, came the famous fantasy suite week, which was where "Pilot Pete" became forevermore known alternately as "Windmill Pete." Allow us to refresh your memory: during the semifinal week, Pete finally told Hannah that he was falling in love with her during their date in Greece. Following that declaration, they, as Hannah would later put it very bluntly, "f*cked in a windmill - twice." In the post-Luke P. fallout, Pete, along with remaining contestants Tyler C. and Jed, helped put a stop to Luke's ill-advised attempt to return. Ultimately, though, Pete was eliminated at the end of the top three. He and Hannah reunited briefly on the aftershow interview and were apparently perfectly amicable - so amicable, in fact, that Hannah revealed she'd told a little bit of a lie about their windmill tryst: "it was actually four times!"
Of course, it wouldn't be The Bachelorette without some postfilming drama. While Jed's scheming took the spotlight this season, Pete also weathered a brief scandal when his ex-girlfriend Calee came forward to say that he had dumped her suddenly for the express purpose of going on the show. Calee's revelation, which came before Pete's postshow interview, did not come up during the usual Chris Harrison couch interview, but Pete did speak to People after his elimination to give his side of the story.
"There was a lot of truth to what she said in her story, but there is also a lot of truth that wasn't mentioned. The show had absolutely nothing to do with me ending that relationship," he insisted. "I was very serious in trying to progress that relationship and move it forward, and she wasn't on the same page as me . . . The casting process and my first interview was months after we broke up. It's obvious that I hurt someone that I really did care about," he says. "That was never my intention. And for that, I'm sorry. Breakups suck!"
Although the revelations did cause some shockwaves in Bachelor Nation, they were quickly overshadowed by Jed's own scandal and the live-on-TV finale fallout, so Pete seems to have emerged relatively unscathed. He's clearly ready to give love another shot, and we'll be following his journey the whole way!
