Billy Porter offered some powerful words of encouragement during the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future event on Saturday. Reflecting on the LGBTQ+ and Black Lives Matter movements, the 50-year-old actor discussed the impact of past activists, saying, "From Ms. Rosa Parks to Malcolm to Martin, as well as transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson, who boldly stood on the frontlines at Stonewall in 1969, I'll forever be grateful to those who fought for us to be where we are today, and it's up to us to keep on fighting." He then praised the younger generation for continuing to push for social justice, adding, "The world is changing right before our eyes, and it's a beautiful thing to see. None of us are promised tomorrow, so we have to take action and keep pushing to make the world a better place for all of us today."
Global Citizen, a collective dedicated to supporting important causes, hosted the live stream with Dwayne Johnson to bring together fellow activists and raise awareness of issues regarding social injustice, public health, and more. There were also performances from Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Miley Cyrus, and Chloe x Halle. Above, watch Billy's full speech and prepare to feel inspired!
