"Don't you let the world take back / All the love that you gave out / This is all our world now," Chloe x Halle sing in "Baby Girl" off their acclaimed sophomore album, Ungodly Hour. The feminist song has now been used to score a socially distanced dance video that serves as a moving love letter to Black women.
"Please include them in your conversations."
In late July, choreographer and visual artist Thomeography debuted the video featuring 20 Black dancers performing to "Baby Girl" and edited in a way to make it seem like it's all happening over Zoom. The video ends on the photos and names of Black women recently killed by police or in a hate crime, including Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Bee Love Slater, and many others. "Please share. Please search the stories of any names you don't recognize. Please include them in your conversations," Thomeography wrote in a caption on Instagram.
Shortly after the video was released, Chloe x Halle offered praise and shared it themselves. "Grateful to these beautiful souls for representing x standing up for black women all around the world. This is what true art is about," the sisters and singing duo wrote, adding, "#babygirl you will not be forgotten." Watch the powerful dance video above.
