If Bridgerton Returns For Season 2 - Which Seems Likely - It'll Be Deliciously Dramatic

It doesn't take long for Netflix's Bridgerton to enwrap you in its regal drama, complex romances, and clever soundtrack. By the end of the debut season, which is based on author Julia Quinn's first novel in the Bridgerton book series, you're left wanting more, begging the question: what awaits us if there's a season two?

Well, first, it's important to note that Bridgerton's second installment technically hasn't been confirmed yet, but we have reason to be hopeful. Although Netflix hasn't announced a renewal, Production Weekly - a premium service that tracks news and updates regarding TV and film projects - included Bridgerton season two on its production listings in November. Filming for the second season was reportedly to take place in July 2020 but had to be postponed to March 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since season one took about a year to shoot, we probably won't see the Bridgerton family return to the small screen until 2022 - if Netflix grants us the pleasure of a follow-up, of course.

Another collection of episodes also seems promising because there's plenty of source material to draw from. There are nine Bridgerton titles in total, so there's no lack of inspiration for continued adaptations. If Netflix follows the book series order, the second season will be based on Quinn's The Viscount Who Loved Me, which follows the love/lust story of the eldest Bridgerton, Anthony, who finds himself in an entanglement with a woman named Edwina Sheffield and her older stepsister, Kate.

In the novel, Anthony is supposed to wed the younger sibling, but he can't do so unless Kate approves of him. Too bad she's set on ruining his chances with Edwina because, in her eyes, a reformed rake isn't husband material. But when Anthony and Kate's disdain for each other turns into romantic feelings, things get complicated, to say the least. The Viscount Who Loved Me also delves into Anthony's decade-long struggle to establish an honorable legacy after assuming the role of Viscount Bridgerton following his father's death.

Evidently, there are some juicy storylines to explore, and we can't wait to dive back in. Let's just hope Netflix renews the series - otherwise, the streaming service might face the written wrath of Lady Whistledown.
