Chadwick Boseman's Wife Accepts His Golden Globe: "He Would Say Something Beautiful"

The Golden Globes remembered the late Chadwick Boseman's life and career as he posthumously won best actor for his role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom on Sunday night. During the show, his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on his behalf and made an impassioned speech that left many attendees tuning in via video - and his costar Viola Davis - with tears in their eyes. "He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifice," Ledward said. "He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside us that tells you you can, that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history. I don't have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love."

This marks Boseman's first-ever Golden Globes nomination and win. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom also marked his final role before his untimely death at age 43 in August 2020, following a private four-year battle with colon cancer. Watch a clip of Ledward's beautiful speech above.
