Full trailer for Alex Garland's 'Men' promises a nightmarish exploration of grief

A woman stands in a dark tunnel, with light visible at the end.

Stalkers, grief, and doppelgängers abound in the full and frightening trailer for Alex Garland's Men, his third writer/directorial effort, following Ex Machina and Annihilation.

Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley stars as Harper, a woman grieving her husband (Paapa Essiedu) who died by suicide. She heads to the countryside to process, but a series of chilling encounters quickly squashes any chance at peace of mind. A strange man stalks her, the apple tree in her yard is losing all its fruit... and did I mention that all the men around her look the same?

Rory Kinnear plays seemingly every man near Harper's countryside retreat, including a priest and the creepy caretaker of her house. His face is even deep-faked onto a child at one point, resulting in one of the trailer's most unsettling images.

Men is in theaters May 20.
