Time-twisting 'Resident Evil' Netflix series hype arrives in a slick trailer

A large horde of zombies is lit by a menacing red light.

Netflix has a Resident Evil series incoming. Not the rough-edged CG anime; this one's a live-action take, and it offers a twist on the Capcom video game series' ridiculously elaborate lore.

This version of the zombie apocalypse spans two timelines. In the earlier one, we meet sisters Jade and Billie Wesker (a surname that should be familiar to fans) as they're settling into a new home in the company town of New Raccoon City. Their dad Albert (Lance Reddick!) has some questionable stuff going involving a very strong and seemingly very angry rat. But everything will surely be fine, right?

The second timeline says, "Nah, not really." Jade is a 30-year-old survivor in a world that's been overrun by the zombie-making T-virus. It's not clear exactly what happened in the years between the two timelines, but it's a mystery tied to her dad and sister.

That's all we know. It's from Netflix's 2020 series announcement. This slick, new trailer amounts to our first look, and it seems real sharp. We'll all find out more soon enough, with Resident Evil coming to Netflix on July 14.
