She has already broken the record for the most-streamed album in a single day on Spotify after the release of the highly-anticipated "Midnights" album last month, and now Taylor Swift has further recognition that she's reached icon status after bagging four awards at the 2022 MTV EMAs. The "Anti-Hero" singer took home the awards for Best Artist, Best Video, Best Pop, and Best Longform Video, making her the most successful nominee of the evening. Nicki Minaj bagged two awards for Best Song and Best Hip Hop, while Harry Styles won Best Live and Best UK & Ireland Act.
The awards bash, which took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, saw celebrities arrive on the MTV EMAs red carpet wearing glamorous outfits including naked dresses, netted skirts, and Barbiecore looks. Rita Ora and Taika Waititi proved their infectious chemistry as the couple laughed and teased each other while hosting the show. The big night was opened with a performance by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha who performed their hit song "I'm Good (Blue)", with Rexha swinging onto the stage. Later, Stormzy performed "Fire Babe" and Lewis Capaldi sang his hit "Forget Me".
In addition to the glitz and glamour of the evening, there was poignant messaging throughout. The arena turned blue and yellow in support of Ukraine during a performance by Ukranian band, Kalush Orchestra. Three Ukrainian women - Lina Deshvar, Anna Kutova, and Anfisa Yakovina - were also awarded with the Generation Change Award for fighting for the rights of those impacted by the war in Ukraine.
