Nearly four years after Nipsey Hussle's tragic death, his legacy is getting its well-deserved flowers in an untitled docuseries. Per a press release shared with POPSUGAR on Nov. 15, SpringHill - the media studio cofounded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter - has announced a partnership with Hussle's Marathon Films to recall the late rapper's life story in a forthcoming documentary, which will cover his early days growing up in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, all the way to his epic rise to fame as a musician and activist.
"Nipsey said, 'If they made a story about my life, it better be a classic.'"
"It's an incredible honor for SpringHill to have a part in sharing Nipsey's story and legacy with the world," James said in a statement. "He used his gift to give back to his community and lived what it means to inspire, empower, and uplift others along the way. His words, his ambition, and his actions stick with me to this day as he continues to inspire myself, our company, and people everywhere."
Hussle's docuseries will feature never-before-seen archival footage as well as exclusive interviews with over 50 of his collaborators, such as Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Diddy. The rapper's longtime partner Lauren London will make an appearance as well. They share a 6-year-old son, Kross Asghedom.
In addition to being backed by SpringHill, Hussle's documentary also has the blessing of his family. "Nipsey was a man of the people," said his older brother, Samiel "Blacc Sam" Asghedom, in a press statement. "He often said his purpose in life was to inspire. Nipsey's light shone across the world. His life is a testament that his purpose was fulfilled. The family has taken the proper time and care needed to ensure that Nipsey's life story be detailed and presented correctly and accurately. We are honored to be able to cement Nipsey's legacy with this epic docuseries of his life. Nipsey said, 'If they made a story about my life, it better be a classic.'"
Hussle's untitled docuseries does not yet have a release date, but it'll be directed and executive produced by One9. Other executive producers include James, Carter, Kross, Hussle's daughter, Emani Asghedom, Jamal Henderson, and Philip Byron. Ahead, check out the documentary's first teaser trailer.
