Marvel's panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con was jam-packed with amazing reveals and heartbreaking trailers (we've heard the Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 trailer was a real tearjerker), but none were as powerful as the reveal for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Once again at the helm to direct is Ryan Coogler, a reassuringly steady hand. But the two-minute teaser is packed with peeks at what awaits us in the sequel without star Chadwick Boseman, who died after a private battle with cancer in 2020 at age 43. Marvel previously confirmed it would not be re-casting the role of T'Challa in the MCU.
Wakanda Forever also introduces Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico), as anti-hero Namor McKenzie, known as the Sub-Mariner. In the comics, Namor is a mutant-hybrid, the son of a human father and an Atlantean princess — which is why his skin is pale compared to the blue skin of the other Atlanteans. He will serve as the main antagonist in the film as Wakanda comes into conflict with the Aztec-inspired Atlantis.
The trailer also gave us our first glimpse of Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams also known as Ironheart, the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Ironman. Wakanda Forever serves as the introduction of Riri Williams in the MCU before she appears on her own Disney+ Ironheart series in the future.
Wakanda Forever looks to be an emotional, grief-filled event. The movie hits theaters on Nov. 11.
