The "Rap Sh!t" Soundtrack Was Made For Hip-Hop Fans

A show titled "Rap Sh!t" has to have a top-tier soundtrack to match its musical inspiration. The new HBO Max comedy, which premiered on July 21, takes us down to the 305 for a come-up story centered around a fictional female rap duo, made up of estranged friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion).

Though the show started as an idea for creator Issa Rae's "Insecure," the larger-than-life hip-hop tale - inspired by real-life rappers like Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B - required its own series to highlight women in hip-hop today. ". . . when it came to creating Shawna and Mia we pulled from so many stories. We pulled from our personal lives, and a lot of other women in rap as well - Tierra Whack, Noname, Rapsody, Azealia Banks," showrunner Syreeta Singleton said in a July Hollywood Reporter interview. "We were looking at everyone's story to try to infuse their journeys with some real authenticity."

"Rap Sh!t"'s soundtrack features music from seasoned hip-hop vets like Trina and Moneybagg Yo, as well as rising artists like Enchanting and Flo Milli. Ahead, listen to every song featured in season one so far.
