Fear the Walking Dead, companion series and prequel to The Walking Dead, has been a pretty successful spin-off. Initially set in Los Angeles, it tells the story of how the outbreak began and follows a new group of people through their journey and struggle for survival.
Season 5 ended with a huge cliff-hanger, leaving fans itching to discover what will happen once the show returns, and which characters will return with it.
But based on IMDb ratings, the season started off strong while episode ratings began to drop as it went on. Here's how they ranked, according to IMDb scores.
16 "Channel 5" (Episode 15) – 4.9
The penultimate episode of a series like this one is usually the best of the season. But in this case, it was actually considered the worst. The focus is on Grace and how much sicker she is getting, on Tom's ridiculous death, and the discussion of John and June getting married.
For a second-to-last episode of a season, it was very anti-climactic.
15 "Channel 4" (Episode 9) – 5.5
This is the episode with the landmines where Morgan risks his life to help a mother and her son who desperately needs medication.
But the whole concept of the group documenting their adventures as though it was a reality show clearly didn't go over well with fans.
14 "End of the Line" (Episode 16) – 5.9
While there was a cliff-hanger ending that had fans talking, the episode was strange. The group flips between desperately wanting to fight back against Virginia and wanting to give up.
It's also revealed that Grace isn't sick after all, but pregnant. The seemingly happy ending, however, is put to a halt when Morgan is shot by Virginia and left for dead with walkers fast approaching. Does he survive?
13 "You're Still Here" (Episode 11) – 6.0
One of the lower rated episodes, this one was about Alicia's mental anguish and trying to find her place in the group. It also introduces Wes.
Logan, meanwhile, continues to be a threat and won't back down until the group tells him where the oil fields are.
12 "Ner Tamid" (Episode 12) – 6.4
Taking place in a synagogue, the group encounters a Rabbi who has been surviving by himself this whole time and is excited for some company.
Logan and his men continue to torment the group and finally discover the location of the oil rigs.
11 "Today and Tomorrow" (Episode 14) – 6.5
The crew is now staying at Virginia's compound and she is trying to sell them on joining her cause. But they suspect that all is not on the up and up with this odd woman and her cult-like group.
And just when Morgan is ready to open up to Grace, she falls violently ill.
10 "The Little Prince" (Episode 6) – 6.7
Named after the popular children's book, the group is still trying to reassemble their plane so they can escape and take the kids with them.
It was more of an in-between-the-action episode showing the group trying desperately to rebuild, practice their skills, and make new friends. Morgan seems to have a soft spot for Grace while Dwight is determined to find Sherry.
9 "210 Words Per Minute" (Episode 10) – 6.8
The group continues their mission to help others, this time making their way to a shopping mall to kill a man who has been bitten and wants to end things on his terms, before he turns.
It's also the episode where Morgan and Grace grow closer, though Morgan is finding it difficult to accept his feelings towards her.
8 "Leave What You Don't" (Episode 13) – 6.9
The character of Virginia is polarizing – some viewers love her and others are irritated by her. Nonetheless, in this episode, she takes over as the new primary antagonist, taking out Logan and his entire crew. Viewers also learn the primary motivations for Logan's actions, and it turns out he was once a good guy, after all.
Virginia takes over and Luciana offers to stay on at the oil fields if Virginia lets the others go.
7 "Still Standing" (Episode 7) – 7.0
As the group gets closer and closer to the impending power plant meltdown, getting the plane up and running becomes a crucial matter of literal life and death. Meanwhile, Alicia discovers that it was the kids who were setting up barricades of walkers to scare people away all along.
Most important from this episode is that Alicia gets splashed with the blood of a likely radioactive walker, which means she could very well by dying.
6 "The End of Everything" (Episode 5) – 7.1
Finally, viewers got to find out what happened to Althea, as she had been missing up until this point. Turns out she was captured by a CRM soldier who is clearly from another community far away.
She and Althea end up striking a bond and fall for one another romantically. And Althea learns more about the mysterious place she's from as well as where to get fuel.
5 "The Hurt That Will Happen" (Episode 2) – 7.4
Daniel and Strand meet again, face-to-face, in an epic showdown. Strand tries to apologize and plead with Daniel for his help with the plane, but Daniel wants nothing to do with him. The group also discovers that Althea is missing.
This episode marks the introduction of Grace in her hazmat suit, who informs Morgan and Alicia about the power plant meltdown and helps decontaminate them.
4 "Here To Help" (Episode 1) – 7.5
The most exciting part of this episode was the return of fan favorite character of Daniel Salazar, played by the wonderful Ruben Blades, who was absent the entire previous season, presumed dead. While Morgan looks at one of Althea's tapes, he shockingly sees Daniel, who clearly has a plane that can help them get to safety.
It's also the episode where the group meets the group of children and discovers that there's high radiation in the area from a nearby nuclear plant. This is also when they discover Logan's true identity: he is Polar Bear's former partner and is not a nice guy.
3 "Humbug's Gulch" (Episode 3) – 7.7
One of the three highest rated episodes of the season, the name is in reference to a Western-styled theme park franchise that mimicked Western frontier towns, where John Dory worked pre-apocalypse, which is why he's such a good trick-shot artist.
John and June find themselves at one of these theme parks while Alicia and Luciana get closer to coaxing out the kids. Marking a crossover episode, this episode brings in the character of Dwight from The Walking Dead.
2 "Skidmark" (Episode 4) – 7.7
Any episode centered around Daniel is bound to be a popular one. And indeed that was the case with this episode, which was named after Daniel's trusty sidekick, his cat.
The group chats with the kids while Daniel makes an unlikely friend in Charlie and shows Strand that he's still in charge.
1 "Is Anybody Out There?" (Episode 8) – 7.7
The race against the clock continues in this episode of the popular show, as the power plant meltdown has begun and the plane is still not repaired yet.
And once it's ready, the group desperately wants to go but John and Dwight haven't made it back yet. It's an intense episode filled with emotion and action.
