Treyarch's upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode will allow cross-play, including cross-generation. Activision announced this new development during a video that featured Treyarch's Director of Communication outlining new details about the Zombies mode in Black Ops Cold War. According to the announcement, cross-play is just one of several new features being added to the upcoming mode for the first time.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was announced last month with a controversial trailer starring former President Ronald Reagan. Since then, a lot of other details have been revealed that seems to point to this being a big change for the Call of Duty franchise. At Gamescom 2020, it was stated that Black Ops Cold War would allow players to make choices throughout the campaign, which will feature multiple endings. On top of this, Black Ops Cold War will also integrate with Warzone - much like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does now - and introduce new mechanics.
In the Zombies mode first look video posted by Activision, it was revealed that Zombies mode will allow cross-play between different consoles and different generations of the same console family. This is something that has never been done before between console generations, especially because players will be able to track their in-game progression across different consoles.
There were many other new features revealed during the course of the video that show that this version of Zombies will be very different from previous iterations. Players will be able to track down Field Upgrades as well as craft their own equipment to use against the hordes of the undead. The biggest change, though, will probably be the Exfil feature, which allows players to call in a helicopter to pick up their squad. The downside is that this also causes more zombies to pursue players until they can make their escape, but if they can make it out, they will earn a wealth of rewards for their troubles.
Zombies is one of the most popular game modes in the Call of Duty games. Ever since the mode's introduction in World At War, players have absolutely fallen in love with it. This new information has done nothing but build more excitement for the game mode, and many players will now be awaiting the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with even more anticipation.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC on November 12th, 2020.
