Apple has always made it quite easy to take a screenshot on the iPhone or iPad and it is just as easy to do the same on an Apple Watch as well. However, the screenshot feature isn’t any good if it, or the images taken, cannot be found. After all, there is no Photos app on the Apple Watch where the screenshots can be stored.
Taking a screenshot on the Apple Watch is useful for many reasons, including capturing information about the Apple Watch. The steps aren’t overly obvious, but once they are known, users can take screenshots whenever the opportunity arises. Now it is effortless to share the results of your workout or preview your next activity. The Apple Watch does not allow for screenshots by default, so the settings on your iPhone need to be changed. Since it takes just two fingers to take a screenshot, it is easy to do by accident, which is why the feature is turned off by default.
The first thing to do is open the Watch app on your iPhone and choose the General setting, then scroll down and turn on Enable Screenshots. Taking a screenshot is now as simple as pressing the Digital Crown and the side button at the same time; listen for the click sound and the Watch face to flicker to white and back to the screen again. The screenshots are then automatically saved to the Photo library on your iPhone in the All Photos album. Open the Camera app and tap the Camera Roll and the screenshot will be the most recent image. There is also a Photos app that maintains a Screenshots folder where all of your pictures can be conveniently accessed.
Once the screenshot has been saved to the iPhone, there are plenty of things that can be done with it. Since the screenshot is like any other photo taken with an iPhone, the image can be shared with others, set as a background image, or even synced to an iCloud Photo Library or computer. To share the screenshot from an Apple Watch, tap it so it is in full-screen view and then tap the sharing button (the square with the arrow coming out of it). The next step is to choose how to share the screenshot, options include AirDrop, email, and text message.
Again, the reason the feature is not enabled by default is to avoid accidents. Therefore, any Apple Watch wearer who does find that accidental screenshots are happening far too often, might want to consider toggling the feature off again in the Settings app. This will reset the Apple Watch back again by preventing a screenshot from being taken.
