What Breath Of The Wild’s Impa Looked Like When She Was Young

The reimagining of classic Zelda characters in a modern style has been an exciting part of Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild since its release. Nintendo has made an effort not just to give the characters a fresh new look, but to create designs that appeal to modern audiences, as well as staying close to what the characters' motivations and cultural attributes are. Impa has become the newest addition to the collection of designs, as players gain more insight into the upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Impa's new look is fresh and different from the past iterations of her younger self, and it falls more in line with what Breath of the Wild has imagined for members of the Sheikah.

In past games where Impa has appeared with a younger design - including the first Hyrule Warriors - she has been portrayed in a more classic video game style, with close-fitting, tight clothing and a more stern, muscled physical appearance. Breath of the Wild has taken many of these styles and flipped them for a softer, more stylized look. Female characters have builds and outfits that are both powerful and portray their status in Hyrule's world and culture. The fresh new ideas Impa is sporting mirror the culture of the Sheikah, while giving her a more ethereal, feminine touch. Much like with Princess Zelda, there is a well-balanced appeal of beauty and power in her design, which is modern and lovely to look at.

By updating Impa's style, Nintendo has created a more modern and relatable design that appeals to players of today. The softer, less dominating look mixed with the up-to-date Sheikah clothing style gives Impa the impression of dignity and intensity, as the released teaser images depict her using powerful moves to protect Hyrule. The classic ninja additions to her outfit add to her already mysterious demeanor and let her stand out against the other updated designs, making her a perfect addition as a playable character.

Nintendo has taken its designs to the next level. With the opportunity to travel back 100 years in Age of Calamity to the time of the much-loved Champions and the battle they faced, the tragedy of Breath of the Wild's Hyrule might be that much deeper. By expanding the playable characters to familiar faces from Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gives fans the opportunity to connect that much more deeply with the storyline. The inclusion of a younger Impa knits the timelines of the two games together, as players now get to see the past and present of one of the only characters who survived the battle to protect the home they love.

Impa's updated look and incredible style has continued the growing excitement for the upcoming release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Her strong personality and grace in her younger design correspond perfectly to the wizened woman players know from Breath of the Wild. It is a perfect reimagining for the Zelda storyline Nintendo has lovingly crafted for players. By updating and modernizing her design and overall appearance, Impa will likely be a fan favorite as a playable character upon the game's release this fall.
