Marvel's Avengers: 10 Things You Need To Know Before Starting

With successful franchised movies come videogames, and Marvel's Avengers does not disappoint. Created by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Marvel's Avengers takes the superheroes everyone knows and loves and creates a game that allows players to become them.

It's been two years since its announcement, and now gamers have the ability to not only watch but play with characters such as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and a new Avenger called Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. It comes with all-new attack plays, missions, and battles. But before playing, there are some things players should know.

10 It Is Separate From The MCU

Marvel's Avengers doesn’t stem from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so this game features a whole different storyline. The game’s storyline takes place five years after A-Day, a day dedicated to the Avengers and the tragedies that occurred due to their destruction.

This game is loosely connected to the comics, so be prepared to see content from the original source material!

9 Adjust The Settings

This is an action-heavy game, so with that comes shaky screens and motions blurs. In simple terms, they are headache inducers. To avoid any headaches while playing this game, be sure to turn off shake sensitivity and motion blur in the settings.

By default, the settings are elevated rather high, so if it becomes disorienting, don’t hesitate to adjust the settings. Target assist can also be adjusted so shots can land easier than it would be without changed settings.

8 Don’t Invest In Gear Too Early

Like most games, it’s important to not spend everything in one place and that goes for investing in gear early on.

Odds are better gear will be in missions further down the line, so if all resources are spent on gear within the first couple of missions, cooler and more effective gear may be missed out on.

7 Be Wary Of Early Gear Upgrades

To keep the gear dialogue going, it’s also important to be wary of obtaining gear from the get-go. Getting gear early may be nice, but it's always best to wait, and here's why. For the Marvel's Avengers game, there’s only one step in order to obtain the best gear for characters.

However, it won’t factor in the bells and whistles of what a solid gear set can do. It’s best to check gear rather than wholly rely on the numerical value one-button system it offers.

6 It Isn’t An Open-World Game

Don’t get any hopes up - Marvel’s Avengers isn’t an open-world game. It primarily functions as a linear storyline. But don’t worry, there are moments within the game where characters can move around more extensive and expansive areas.

Besides, why explore when you’re busy being a literal superhero?

5 When In Doubt, Pick Reassemble

When first turning on Marvel’s Avengers, players will pick from either Reassemble or Avengers Initiative. Considering Avengers Initiative takes place after Reassemble, players should opt for Reassemble first.

It’s best to go through the single-player campaign before teaming up with buddies and taking on other players!

4 Play Iconic Missions ASAP

Along with the two different story modes, there are also Avenger Iconic Missions! These missions correspond with each character available for play in Marvel’s Avengers. For instance, the first one is for the Hulk and the iconic mission is called Condition: Green. Another one is for Black Widow and it's called Along Came a Spider.

The iconic missions are also how you unlock traditional superhero outfits for the Avengers. Additionally, they even unlock character abilities, so it’s best to unlock all these now in Reassemble rather than waiting and making up for it in Avengers Initiative!

3 Block-Breaking Attacks Are Your Friends

If enemies need to be obliterated quickly, and the gear the character has isn’t strong enough for effective hits, block-breaking attacks are the next best thing.

These attacks dispose of enemies quicker and can even help out any co-players that are assisting. Block breaking attacks are also great for enemies bearing shields.

2 You Can Cancel Attacks!

Marvel’s Avengers already comes with a few great features, but having the ability to cancel attacks may be one of them. Several of the attacks in this game have a long wind-up, so while the Hulk or hammer-wielding Thor is busy winding up the attack, the enemy may be stunning you in the process.

Because of this annoyance, canceling an attack is the way to go! Simply jump or dodge to roll out of the way or avoid the enemy’s attack.

1 Some Doors Are Hero-Specific

It's unfortunate to say, but not every superhero in Marvel's Avengers can open doors with loot behind them. These doors are found in War Zones and other areas. Smashable doors can be opened with heroes that are smash-heavy, like the Hulk and Kamala. Terminal doors are only opened by Iron Man or Black Widow.

In addition, AI co-players aren't able to perform these tasks, so it's best to buddy up with a friend in order to succeed with doors that aren't openable with the character being played.
