Mean Girls: Every Main Character, Ranked By Intelligence

Although Mean Girls was first released in 2004, it feels like it could have come out yesterday because the themes of popularity and staying true to oneself are still so relevant. Cady Heron's journey is one that many teenage girls have been through, as she thinks that she wants to be pretty and popular, but she realizes by the end of the film that those things don't actually matter.

Some Mean Girls fans even have tattoos, and the famous film has brought audiences so much joy over the years. While fans laugh about iconic lines like "That's so fetch" and questions about carbs, there are definitely some characters who are much smarter than others.

10 Karen Smith

Karen Smith says some funny, infamous lines dialogue, but this character, played by Amanda Seyfried, is definitely the dumbest person in the movie.

Her confusion and ditzy personality are played for laughs, like when she says she has "ESPN" and she meets "ESP." It would be tough to call her intelligent, as she never seems to understand what people are saying to her, even if the situation isn't really all that hard to figure out.

9 Cady Heron

Lindsay Lohan's fans loved watching her play Cady Heron in Mean Girls, but it would be a stretch to call this character smart.

Because Cady lived in another country and was homeschooled, she truly has no clue about how to be social or deal with people her own age. She also doesn't get high school life at all. Cady also becomes a carbon copy of Regina George and doesn't even realize what's happening, which doesn't show a lot of intelligence. She's also someone who is easily influenced.

8 Mrs. George

Regina George is super mean and her mom, Mrs. George (Amy Poehler), is pretty funny.

She's mostly funny because she's so out of it, though, and she would never be called an intellectual. She seems to only care about physical appearances and seeming as young as possible. It's not the best way to go through life, that's for sure. She has some funny quotes in the movie that fans will always remember, but she doesn't seem to have a very high I.Q.

7 Damian

Damian (Daniel Franzese) is widely considered one of the best Mean Girls characters and he's one of the most intelligent as well.

He says the hilarious line about Gretchen's hair that everyone loves ("That's why her hair is so big, it's full of secrets") and also explains to Cady that Karen and Gretchen are Regina's "workers."

6 Gretchen Wieners

Mean Girls is a very quotable movie and many of those gems come from Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert).

But even though she's portrayed as someone who is as ditzy as her counterpart Karen, the truth is that Gretchen seems much smarter than a lot of people would give her credit for. She starts to see the pieces of the puzzle coming together halfway through the movie, and she realizes that Regina is totally playing them. She's smart enough to realize that she isn't being treated very well.

5 Aaron Samuels

Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) likes Cady quite a bit, but only when she acts like herself. He's smart enough to know that when she starts copying Regina George, she's not the one for him.

Aaron won't compromise his beliefs and he only wants to date Cady if she will be fully herself. That's something to admire, for sure.

4 Kevin Gnapoor

Kevin is one of the smartest characters in this beloved movie. Played by Rajiv Surendra, he's the head of the Mathletes and he has a lot of knowledge of this subject.

He also does an incredible rap, and the fact that he can be so creative while still dealing with an academic subject says a lot. He's also smart enough to date Janis Ian at the end of the movie, as she's definitely relationship material.

3 Ms. Norbury

Tina Fey has produced some great films, and one of her most famous films is Mean Girls. She not only wrote the movie, but she starred as Ms. Norbury.

This character seems like someone who has always been a little uncool but she really doesn't mind at all. She's secure with herself and she knows that she's an excellent teacher.

2 Janis Ian

Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) is definitely one of the smartest people in Mean Girls. She knows that Damian is the best pal that she could have, and she comes up with the plan for Cady to get involved with the Plastics.

Janis is also smart enough to know that Cady has taken things way too far and that she's gotten away from her real self. She seems very perceptive and like she lives according to her gut instincts.

1 Regina George

The most intelligent character in Mean Girls is none other than Regina George (Rachel McAdams), the head of the Plastics, and the character who inspires Cady's downfall.

Regina is totally an evil mastermind, and only someone who is smart could influence others so much and make them do what she wants. Even though Regina (thankfully) gets taken down and is knocked off her throne, she plays everyone at school like a chess game for quite a while. It looks like her brain is always working hard, and that's what makes her so scary.
