She plays an aspiring pop star in her new film Teen Spirit. And on Tuesday, Elle Fanning attended a special screening of the movie at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The actress, 20, was stylish in a white blouse and black tailored trousers worn with a black corset.
Her blouse featured pretty broderie anglaise detailing down the front and at the cuffs.
The tapered trousers narrowed to her ankles and she stepped out in black heels with bows on top.
In Teen Spirit, Fanning stars as a shy teenager Violet who dreams of winning a singing competition as a way of escaping her dreary life.
Elle was joined at the screening by Max Minghella, 33, who makes his directorial debut with the musical drama. The actor son of The English Patient Oscar-winning filmmaker Anthony Minghella, who stars in The Handmaid's Tale, also wrote the screenplay for Teen Spirit. On hand, too, was actor Jamie Bell, 32, who served as an executive producer on the film.
Earlier this month, in an interview with Billboard to promote the movie, Fanning revealed that she'd always dreamed of starring in a musical. 'I've always wanted to sing, because people don't know that I can, so I wanted to surprise people with that,' she explained. She spent three months working with the film's musical supervisor Marius de Vries as well as watching videos of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry performing. 'My character Violet looks up to all those pop idols so that's who she would be watching and trying emulate,' she said. 'They're covers of big pop songs, so I was really scared to get those wrong because people love them so much and also hear them on the radio all the time. So I wanted to not butcher them, basically,' she added.
